El cartero de Neruda, también conocida como Ardiente Paciencia, es una novela del escritor chileno Antonio Skármeta, publicada en 1985. La historia narra la relación entre Mario Jiménez, un joven cartero, y el famoso poeta Pablo Neruda en Isla Negra. A través de su amistad, Mario aprende sobre poesía y metáforas, lo que le ayuda a conquistar a la mujer que ama y a comprender mejor el mundo que le rodea. La novela fue adaptada al cine en la película italiana del mismo nombre, dirigida por Michael Radford.

Esteban Antonio Skármeta Vranicic was a Chilean writer, screenwriter, and director. His novel Ardiente paciencia was the basis for the film Il Postino. In Chile, he was popularly known for hosting a television show on literature and the arts. He served as Chile's ambassador to Germany from 2000 to 2003. In 2014, he was awarded the Chilean National Literature Prize.
