«El Cid histórico» is the historical biography by Gonzalo Martínez Díez, published by Planeta in paperback (488 pages, in Spanish).
It reconstructs the trajectory of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar from contemporary documentation and testimonies, against the idealized image of the cantares. The result is a portrait of the 11th-century Castilian noble with his contradictions, far from the myth and anchored in his historical context.
The work belongs to the Divulgación collection, number 3006, and is part of the Booket Logista series.
A read for those interested in the medieval history of Spain and in a documented view of the Cid, far from the legend.
