«El conte de la Serventa» is the dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood, published by Quaderns Crema in paperback (360 pages, in Catalan).
In the near future, the Republic of Gilead, a theocratic and totalitarian regime, controls the female body. Fertile women, called handmaids, serve only to guarantee the elite's offspring. Offred narrates her daily life between submission and the memory of a free life, showing the fragility of rights and freedoms.
It is book number 1 of the series The Handmaid's Tale, with a Catalan translation by Xavier Pàmies, originally published in 1985 and belonging to the Biblioteca Mínima collection (no. 208).
For readers of dystopias, science fiction and feminist fiction interested in social and political criticism.
