«El don de los deseos» is the historical novel by Judith Merkle Riley, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardcover (508 pages, in Spanish).
In 1556 France, Catherine de' Medici seeks to rid herself of Henry II's mistress and resorts to witchcraft to find the immortal head of the magician Menander, the Lord of All Desires. Nostradamus warns that this power demands a terrible price, while Sibille Artaud de la Roque, a young aspiring poet, crosses paths with the mysterious box that holds the macabre talisman. The novel weaves court intrigue, temptation, and magic into a story where granted wishes lead to tragic fates.
Originally published as «The Master of All Desires»; translation by Josefina Guerrero. This edition belongs to the La cámara secreta collection from Círculo de Lectores.
Recommended for readers of historical fiction with doses of fantasy, romance, and courtly intrigue, especially those who enjoy stories set in the French Renaissance.
