«El general en su laberinto» is the historical novel by Gabriel García Márquez, published by Literatura Random House in hardcover (272 pages, in Spanish).
Simón Bolívar, the Liberator, sets out in 1830 on his last journey along the Magdalena River toward the sea, ill, stripped of power and hounded by conspiracies. Along the way he reviews his life, his victories and failures, and contemplates the ruin of his ideal of a united America, while illness and memories plunge him into a personal labyrinth.
The work was originally published in 1989; this 2002 edition belongs to the Biblioteca García Márquez collection.
For readers of historical fiction and of Gabriel García Márquez's narrative interested in the figure of Bolívar from a literary perspective.

Gabriel José García Márquez was a Colombian writer and journalist, known affectionately as Gabo or Gabito throughout Latin America. Considered one of the most significant authors of the 20th century, particularly in the Spanish language, he was awarded the 1972 Neustadt International Prize for Literature and the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. He pursued a self-directed education that resulted in leaving law school for a career in journalism. From early on he showed no inhibitions in his criticism of Colombian and foreign politics. In 1958, he married Mercedes Barcha Pardo; they had two sons, Rodrigo and Gonzalo.
