«El incendio de Alejandría» is the historical novel by Jean-Pierre Luminet, published by Ediciones B in paperback (281 pages, in Spanish).
In the year 642, by order of Caliph Omar, the troops of General Amr arrive in Alexandria with the mission of burning the books of its famous library. Three scholars —Philoponus, Rhazes and the mathematician Hypatia— try to dissuade him by reminding him of the life and work of great thinkers such as Aristarchus of Samos, Archimedes or Euclid.
The work was originally published in 2002 as «Le Bâton d'Euclide»; this Spanish edition, in the Byblos collection (no. 2432), features a translation by Manuel Serrat Crespo.
For readers of historical fiction interested in classical culture, ancient science and the history of the Library of Alexandria.
