«El jardí dels Finzi-Contini» is the novel by Giorgio Bassani, published by A tot vent in hardcover (218 pages, in Catalan).
The novel evokes in 1930s Ferrara the narrator's relationship with the Jewish Finzi-Contini family and, above all, with Micòl, between friendship and love. Fascism and the racial laws shake that bourgeois community into persecution. It is a melancholy portrait of Italy, of fascism and of memory, a world that fades away.
Viareggio Rèpaci Prize 1962 and third installment of the series «Il romanzo di Ferrara». The Catalan translation is by Carme Serrallonga.
For readers of historical fiction and Italian literature, with an interest in World War II and the Holocaust.
Giorgio Bassani was an Italian novelist, poet, essayist, editor, and intellectual.
