«El mago de Esmirna» is the fantasy novel by Joan Manuel Gisbert, published by Anaya Infantil y Juvenil in paperback (136 pages, in Spanish).
Shaban, son of the magician of Smyrna, sets out on the path that must lead him to become a magician. His first test is to ascend the Great Mountain and spend a whole day there in solitude; in that place where anything is possible, references to time and space lose their value and the young protagonist experiences extraordinary events.
It belongs to the El Duende Verde collection, number 7, and includes illustrations by Juan Ramón Alonso. Originally published in 1987.
Recommended for young readers aged 10 and up, especially for those who enjoy fantasy and magic.
