«El nen dels escacs» is the historical novel by Màrius Carol, published by Columna CAT in hardcover (208 pages, in Catalan).
A photo of Hemingway found as a bookmark leads the narrator to investigate what relationship he had with his wife's family. He reconstructs the story of Antoni Lloret, a republican tailor hidden for ten years after the war; only his wife and mother know his whereabouts. The chess problems his son receives are his only link to the outside world.
Antoni Lloret was a tailor from Sant Sadurní and deputy mayor for ERC in Republican times. The work belongs to the Clàssica collection of Columna CAT.
For readers of historical novels and stories set during the Spanish Civil War and the postwar period.
