«El pare d'un assassí» is the short novel by Alfred Andersch published by Columna CAT in paperback, in Catalan.
The action takes place in a classroom of the Wittelsbach Gymnasium in Munich in the 1920s, during a single Greek lesson. Headmaster Himmler enters, apparently to check the students' progress, but soon ends up taking over the lesson and turns the classroom into a tense stage about authority and authoritarianism.
Catalan translation, published in 2002 in the «Col·lecció Jove» collection; the original German title is «Der Vater eines Mörders. Eine Schulgeschichte» (1980).
Aimed at young readers and those seeking a short narrative set in a school environment in interwar Germany.
Alfred Hellmuth Andersch was a German writer, publisher, and radio editor. The son of a conservative East Prussian army officer, he was born in Munich, Germany, and died in Berzona, Ticino, Switzerland. Martin Andersch, his brother, was also a writer.
