«El petit cèsar» is the crime novel by W. R. Burnett, published by Edicions 62 in paperback format (192 pages, in Catalan).
A foundational crime novel, it follows Rico Bandello, a cold, capable gangster devoid of any ethical consideration, through his career. Burnett wanted to show the world from the criminal's eyes, letting the action speak for itself; the character also reveals his tragic dimension, that of one who must always start over after defeat.
Part of the Seleccions de la Cua de Palla collection (no. 148). Catalan translation by Esther Roig Giménez; original title: Little Caesar (1929).
For readers of crime fiction and classics of the criminal genre, particularly those who want to discover the gangster archetype at its origin.
