«El primer home» is the posthumous and unfinished novel by Albert Camus, published by Editorial Empúries in 1996 in paperback (288 pages, in Catalan).
The work narrates the childhood of Jacques Cormery, a boy who grows up in a miserable suburb of Algiers, son of an Alsatian father killed in the First World War and of an illiterate, almost mute Minorcan mother, raised by an authoritarian grandmother. The circumstances, characters and setting coincide with Camus's own childhood.
Camus died in 1960 with the manuscript unfinished; the work was first published in 1994. This Catalan edition is part of the Empúries Narrativa collection.
