«El Rescoldo» is the historical novel by Joaquín Leguina, published by Alfaguara in hardcover (304 pages, in Spanish).
Francisca Vió, married to her cousin Antonio, balances that love with her feelings for Germinal Ors, an anarchist. The Spanish Civil War of 1936 cuts short her dreams of freedom; after disappearing in the conflict, her memory falls into oblivion. Years later, her grandson Adolfo hesitates between learning his roots and unearthing the secrets his family buried.
Originally published in April 2004, it is part of the Alfaguara Hispánica collection. ISBN 9788420401652.
For readers of historical fiction and contemporary Spanish narrative, with an interest in the Civil War and family memory.
