«El simple arte de matar» is a hardcover crime novel volume by Raymond Chandler, published by Bruguera (215 pages, in Spanish).
The essay that gives the volume its title argues that the boundary between serious literature and detective fiction fades when writing is vital and true. Chandler criticizes artificial plots and the conventions of the 'golden age' of mystery, with allusions to Christie, Sayers and Doyle, and champions a hard, realistic narrative in the wake of Hammett.
Volume number 41 of the Novela Negra series in Bruguera's Libro Amigo collection. Translation by Floreal Mazía of the original The Simple Art of Murder.
For crime fiction readers who want to know Chandler's view of the genre and his defense of realism against conventional plots.

Raymond Thornton Chandler was an American-British novelist and screenwriter.
