«El vergel» is the novel by writer Josefina Aldecoa, published in 1999 by Seix Barral in paperback (141 pages, in Spanish).
Set in a girls' boarding school in postwar Spain, the story follows a young boarder who observes life at the institution. The students move between imposed discipline and a network of friendships and complicities that serves as their refuge. The novel deals with repression, loss of innocence, and the gradual awakening to a freedom that the environment denies.
The 141-page edition was published in Barcelona within the Biblioteca Breve collection of Seix Barral.
