El viejo y el mar es una novela corta escrita por Ernest Hemingway en 1951 en Cuba, y publicada en 1952. Fue la última obra de ficción importante publicada en vida de Hemingway, y es una de sus obras más famosas. La novela cuenta la historia de Santiago, un viejo pescador cubano que lucha con un enorme marlín en las corrientes del Golfo. La historia es una alegoría de la lucha del hombre contra la naturaleza y su propia mortalidad. Esta edición de Editorial Planeta Barcelona, publicada en 1975, incluye además una biografía de Hemingway escrita por Carlos Pujol.
