«Els anys de la serp» is the coming-of-age novel by Joan Rendé, published by Proa in hardcover (304 pages).
Joana, a girl from the Sierra de Cazorla, emigrates with her parents to the mountains of the Ports and the Catalan Pyrenees. Her father works extracting timber from the forests and later in a cobalt mine; her mother, a former maid, finds work at an inn. The isolation of the landscape and curiosity about nature sustain her childhood until a family tragedy breaks that harmony and forces her to grow up suddenly, facing a world that no longer seems idyllic.
Published on October 11, 2017, it is part of the A TOT VENT collection from Proa.
For readers of contemporary fiction interested in stories of emigration and coming of age.
