«Emergency» is the essay collection on Africa edited by Alfredo Jaar, published by Editorial Actar in paperback (260 pages, in English).
The book stems from Jaar's eponymous installation that inaugurated the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC) in 2005: a dark pool from which a fiberglass model of Africa emerges and submerges. The edition expands the piece with essays by African writers such as Ama Ata Aidoo, Buchi Emecheta, Nawal el Saadawi and Nuruddin Farah, on identity, diaspora, violence and hope.
Revised and expanded edition, published on the occasion of the inauguration of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC) in 2005 with Jaar's Emergency exhibition.
For those interested in contemporary art, African essays and reflection on identity and diaspora in Africa.
