«Emmordassats i complaguts» is Jordi Mata's essay on the War of the Spanish Succession, published by La Busca Edicions in paperback (134 pages, in Catalan).
Jordi Mata leaves fiction behind to revisit the War of the Spanish Succession that marked Catalonia three centuries ago from the perspective of an ordinary citizen, tired of traditional narratives. With irony and a contemporary outlook, he brings together episodes downplayed out of fear or calculation and champions the value of the nation against the complexes that weigh on its self-esteem.
Published in 2008, it received the Premi Nacional d'Assaig Francesc Ferrer i Gironès.
It will appeal to readers of Catalan history and to those seeking a critical essay on the established narrative of the War of the Spanish Succession.
