«Épaminondas» is the children's story by Odile Weulersse and Kersti Chaplet, published by Flammarion in paperback (24 pages, in French).
Each week, young Épaminondas crosses the savannah to help his godmother, and she gives him an object to carry home with great care. The boy, however, only half-listens to the instructions and things end up going wrong. This tale of African origin shows that obeying is not enough: you have to think and adapt the advice to what you actually have in hand.
The book is number 65 in Les classiques du Père Castor, with text by Odile Weulersse and illustrations by Kersti Chaplet. It appeared in 1999.
Aimed at children aged 3 to 5; useful for talking about listening carefully to instructions and thinking before acting.
