«Eros: La superproducción de los afectos» is the essay by Eloy Fernández Porta, published by Anagrama in paperback (384 pages, in Spanish).
The book analyzes love as a production of contemporary capitalism: in the affective market, passions are negotiated with digital, informational and financial instruments. The essay mixes satires, poems, songs and a work of critical fiction set in 2040; it addresses break-up, nostalgia and the legitimacy of emotions in the face of spectacle.
The book is number 412 in Anagrama's Argumentos collection and won the 38th Anagrama Essay Prize in 2010.
For readers of essays and sociology interested in how the affective market conditions emotions and personal relationships.
