«Esa puta tan distinguida» is the novel by Spanish writer Juan Marsé, published in 2016 by Círculo de Lectores in hardcover (235 pages, in Spanish).
One January afternoon in 1949, Carol, a young prostitute, goes up to the projection booth of the Delicias movie theater, where Fermín Sicart, the manager, is waiting for her. From that encounter, Juan Marsé reconstructs a crime and interweaves memory, desire and film in a portrait of the postwar period.
Juan Marsé Carbó was a Spanish novelist, journalist, and screenwriter who used Spanish as his literary language. In 2008, he was awarded the Cervantes Prize, "the Spanish-language equivalent" to the Nobel Prize in Literature.
