«Escritos de un salvaje» is a collection of writings and testimonies by the artist Paul Gauguin, published by Ediciones Akal in paperback (278 pages, in Spanish).
The volume brings together texts by Gauguin himself, mostly written during his stay in the South Seas, to offer a first-person account of his thinking on art and society, as well as his relationship with other figures of his time such as Van Gogh and the construction of his own legend.
It corresponds to number 167 of the Básica de Bolsillo collection. Translated from the French by Marta Sánchez-Eguibar; first edition in 2008.
Aimed at readers of art history and those who want to understand the thinking of a central figure in the origins of modernity.

Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin was a French painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramist, and writer, whose work has been primarily associated with the Post-Impressionist and Symbolist movements. He was also an influential practitioner of wood engraving and woodcuts as art forms. While only moderately successful during his lifetime, Gauguin has since been recognized for his experimental use of color and Synthetist style that were distinct from Impressionism.
