«Expreso de medianoche» is the memoir by Billy Hayes and William Hoffer, published by Círculo de Lectores in paperback (231 pages, in Spanish).
Billy Hayes, a young American, is arrested in Turkey for hashish possession and imprisoned in a brutal, corrupt system. While his parents work for his release through diplomatic channels, he thinks only of escaping; the metaphor of the local train gives way to the midnight express when he decides to risk a breakout.
True story originally published in English as «Midnight Express» (1977); this Spanish edition includes the translation by Antonio Bonanno.
For readers of memoirs, true crime, and prison survival stories.
