«Fábulas literarias» is Tomás de Iriarte's collection of verse fables, published by Busma in paperback (126 pages, in Spanish).
Iriarte's 67 verse fables revolve around literature: the author rebukes the faults of writers, readers and critics, and slips in satirical allusions to figures such as Samaniego or Forner. Among the best known are «El burro flautista», «Los dos conejos», «La mona» and «La ardilla y el caballo».
The work was originally published in 1782; this 1984 edition, with a prologue by Rosario de la Iglesia, belongs to the Poesía y prosa popular collection (no. 62).
Its didactic character and satirical tone make it especially suitable for students of Spanish literature and readers of 18th-century poetry.
