«Fief» is the novel by David Lopez, published by Seuil in paperback (256 pages, in French).
On the margins between the suburbs and the countryside, Jonas and his gang kill time with tobacco, card games and weed in the garden. Their territory is language: Lahuiss uses Voltaire to seduce, Poto raps and insults his friends, Ixe shines with his spelling mistakes. The novel seeks a poetry of existence in a world without horizon.
Winner of the 2018 Livre Inter prize, it is David Lopez's first novel and belongs to Seuil's Cadre rouge collection.
For a general audience interested in contemporary French fiction and portraits of the periphery.
