«François 1er et la Renaissance» is the historical essay by Gonzague Saint Bris, published by Le Livre de Poche in paperback (475 pages, in French).
Gonzague Saint Bris portrays Francis I of France beyond the cliché of the knight king: a monarch not destined for the throne, protector of the arts, philosopher, poet and promoter of architecture. The narrative covers his campaigns in Italy, the Field of the Cloth of Gold meeting, the defeat at Pavia and his captivity in Madrid.
The work was originally published in 2008; this paperback edition went on sale on June 2, 2010.
For readers of French history and the Renaissance, and for those seeking the biography of a key monarch in 16th-century Europe.

Gonzague Saint Bris was an award-winning French novelist, biographer, and journalist. He won the 2002 Prix Interallié for Les Vieillards de Brighton. He was the founder of La Forêt des livres, an annual book festival, and the Cabourg Film Festival. He was also a juror for the prix Contrepoint, a French literary award. With his family, he was a co-proprietor of Clos Lucé.
