«Fuente Ovejuna» is the play by Lope de Vega, published by Cátedra in paperback (192 pages, in Spanish).
The villagers of Fuente Ovejuna, weary of the Commander's abuses —tyrant to his vassals and rebel before the king—, rise against him. The play interweaves the love conflict with the community's right of resistance when hierarchy loses its legitimacy, and restores order after the taking of Ciudad Real.
It belongs to Cátedra's Letras Hispánicas collection (no. 137), edited by Juan María Marín. A classic work of Spanish Golden Age theatre.
Ideal for students of Spanish literature and readers interested in Golden Age classical theatre.
Dramaturgo y poeta español del Siglo de Oro, autor de Fuente Ovejuna, El caballero de Olmedo y El perro del hortelano.
