«Gasolina» is the novel by Quim Monzó, published by Editorial Anagrama in paperback (184 pages, in Spanish).
The novel opens with Heribert, a celebrated artist who, in the early hours of January 1, feels that everything around him has become distant and unjustifiable. Not in the mood to paint, he falls asleep with Hildegarda, discovers that Helena, his wife and gallery owner, is cheating on him with an extravagant man, and lets himself be seduced by a teenager.
Work translated from Catalan by Joaquín Jordá; the original «Benzina» is from 1983. This Spanish edition appeared in 1984.
Recommended for readers of contemporary Spanish-language fiction and translated Catalan literature.
