«Gelsomino en el país de los mentirosos» is Gianni Rodari's children's novel, published by La Galera in paperback (208 pages, in Spanish).
Gelsomino has such a prodigious voice that a single shout is enough to bring down castles. When he arrives in the Land of Liars, he discovers that lying is compulsory there and truth is punished with fines; with the help of new friends, he will stand up to King Jaimón.
Work originally published in 1958 as «Gelsomino nel paese dei bugiardi»; translation by Angelina Gatell. Part of the Grumetes collection.
Suitable for readers around 10 years old, fans of zany stories, humor and classics of children's literature.
Giovanni Francesco "Gianni" Rodari was an Italian writer and journalist, most famous for his works of children's literature, notably Il romanzo di Cipollino. For his lasting contribution as a children's author, he received the biennial Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 1970. He is considered Italy's most important 20th-century children's author, and his books have been translated into many languages, though few have been published in English.
