«Genio y figura» is the novel by Juan Valera, published by PML Ediciones in paperback (190 pages, in Spanish).
On its appearance, the novel caused literary scandal and editorial success. Juan Valera moves his usual Andalusian setting to cosmopolitan environments he knew from his diplomatic career. In the line of the French erotic novel, it does not avoid daring situations nor defend contempt for social norms: reality emerges artistically refined.
The work was originally published in 1897; this edition, from 1995, belongs to the Clásicos Españoles collection.
For those who enjoy Spanish classics and late 19th-century narrative.
