«Goodbye to Berlin» is the novel by Christopher Isherwood, published by Vintage Classics in paperback (256 pages, in English).
A young British man narrates his experiences in Berlin in the early 1930s, amid the glitter of the cabarets and growing political tension. These sketches feature Sally Bowles, a capricious Englishwoman, the wealthy Jewish Landauer family, and other people whose lives are destabilized by the rise of Nazism.
The novel was originally published in 1939 and, together with «Mr Norris Changes Trains», served as the basis for the musical «Cabaret».
For readers of twentieth-century classic fiction and stories about interwar Berlin and the rise of Nazism.

Christopher Isherwood was an English and American novelist, playwright, screenwriter, autobiographer, and diarist. His best-known works include Goodbye to Berlin (1939), a semi-autobiographical novel which was the basis for Cabaret (1966); A Single Man (1964), adapted into a film directed by Tom Ford in 2009; and Christopher and His Kind (1976), a memoir which "carried him into the heart of the Gay Liberation movement".
