«Heldere hemel» is the short novel by Tom Lanoye, published by ECI B.V. (inzake New Book uitg) in hardcover (91 pages, in Dutch).
The narrative stems from a real event in 1989, at the twilight of the Cold War: after the pilot ejected due to power loss, a Soviet fighter jet remained unmanned and crashed over Kortrijk, killing an eighteen-year-old. World politics saw it as an anecdote; for one family it was a tragedy.
It was the Boekenweekgeschenk 2012, the book given away during the Dutch Boekenweek.
