«Herbstmilch» is the autobiography of Anna Wimschneider, published by Piper Verlag GmbH in paperback (154 pages, in German).
The author, born in 1927 in Lower Bavaria, reviews her life as a farmer: the hardship of work on a small holding, poverty, wars and the social changes of the twentieth century. Her account, written in a sober, direct prose, became a classic testimony of German rural life. The edition includes the subtitle «Lebenserinnerungen einer Bäuerin», which in English means 'memories of a farmer's wife'.
It is part of the Piper Series, number 740. The work was revised by Katrin Meschkowski and originally appeared in 1984; the present edition dates from 1989.
