In 1928, an aviator accepts a secret assignment and disappears; more than fifty years later, his son asks Lefranc to find him. The investigator discovers that the man lives in hiding, terrified of the O.C.R.A. organization, which is building a terrible weapon on Mont Sainte-Odile. To get hold of its plans, Lefranc must ally himself with his old enemy Axel Borg.
It is the eighth installment in the Lefranc series. The work was originally published in French as «L'arme absolue»; this Dutch edition is published by Casterman.
