«Hipopóptimos: uma história de amor» is a children's and young adult novel by Álvaro Magalhães published by Edições Asa in hardcover (65 pages, in Portuguese).
A shy, sensitive boy, affected by the changes of his body and by a pimple, aims to win the heart of a girl who seems out of his reach. He was born with "grass in his heart" and has a special destiny. Between reality and dream, the human and the natural world merge: growing up can lead to a transformation as astonishing as becoming a hippopotamus.
The work, illustrated by Danuta Wojciechowska, belongs to the Biblioteca Álvaro Magalhães collection and won the Grande Prémio Gulbenkian de Literatura para Crianças e Jovens.
Aimed at children and young adult readers, especially those approaching adolescence and who enjoy fantastic stories about growing up.
