«Histórias Maravilhosas do Oriente» is Pearl S. Buck's anthology of tales, published by Livros do Brasil in paperback (318 pages, in Portuguese).
Pearl S. Buck brings together folk tales from Eastern traditions, from Russia to Japan, with stops in Turkey, Persia, India and China. Magical beings and enchanted objects appear to help characters overcome their limitations, while the stories reflect shared dreams and fears. As in any fairy tale, good triumphs over evil.
Translation by Fernanda Pinto Rodrigues. The original «Fairy Tales of the Orient» was published in 1965. The cover mentions Pearl S. Buck's Nobel Prize.
For readers interested in fairy tales, folklore and narrative traditions of Asia, as well as in the work of Pearl S. Buck.
