«Il gatto Martino» is the illustrated children's book by Fulvio Tomizza, published by Giunti Junior in paperback (64 pages, in Italian).
Martino is a kitten so sweet that he doesn't know how to scratch or defend himself, and the adults have taught him to distrust dogs. His world changes when he discovers that his supposed enemies, from bassets to Saint Bernards, have no interest in fighting with him. A story about friendship and prejudice, with color illustrations, designed to accompany first readings.
Recommended for early readers aged 5 and up, especially for those starting to read in Italian or who enjoy stories featuring animals.
Fulvio Tomizza was an Italian writer. He was born in Giurizzani di Materada in Istria, to a middle-class family. His mother was Margherita Frank Trento, born into a poor family of Slavic extraction. His father, Ferdinando, reportedly was from an ancient family of southern Dalmatian Italian origins. Tomizza grew up in a zone where the dialect was mixed.
