In 'Engineers of the Soul,' Frank Westerman explores the difficult situation of writers under totalitarian regimes, delving into the analysis of the Soviet system. Through a journey between the present and the past, Westerman reveals the life of Konstantin Paustovski and his contemporaries, showing their initial enthusiasm for the Russian revolution, which soon transformed into mandatory adulation. The work poses a duel between writers and hydraulic engineers, anticipating the fall of the Soviet empire.
