«José Hierro» is the poetry anthology by José Hierro with a prologue by Felipe Benítez Reyes, published by El País in 2008 in hardcover (193 pages, in Spanish).
This anthology compiles a significant part of the poetic output of José Hierro, one of the essential voices of twentieth-century Spanish poetry. The volume opens with a prologue by Felipe Benítez Reyes and offers a gateway to his work.
It corresponds to number 20 of El País's Poetry Collection and brings together poems by José Hierro (1922-2002).
Aimed at those seeking a first approach to José Hierro's poetry and readers interested in twentieth-century Spanish poetry.
José Hierro del Real, sometimes colloquially called Pepe Hierro, was a Spanish poet. He belonged to the so-called postwar generation, within the rootless and existential poetry streams. He wrote for both Espadaña and Garcilaso magazines. In 1981, he received the Prince of Asturias Awards in Literature, in 1998 the Cervantes Prize and he received many more awards and honours.
