Synopsis of Kolwezi 1977
En mayo de 2018 se conmemoró el cuarenta aniversario de la batalla de Kolwezi. Jean Dusausoy nos ofrece un testimonio valioso de su experiencia como técnico expatriado en las minas de Katanga durante la década de 1970. El relato describe la vida cotidiana de un expatriado, el trabajo en la mina, la dificultad de estar lejos de sus seres queridos y los aspectos positivos como el clima agradable. Con el tiempo, la situación de seguridad se deteriora y, en 1977, estalla la primera guerra de Shaba. En mayo de 1978, el Frente Nacional de Liberación del Congo (FNLC) toma Kolwezi, pero tras siete días de batalla, son repelidos por el 2º Regimiento Extranjero de Paracaidistas. Durante este conflicto, 2.250 ciudadanos europeos fueron evacuados a Bélgica, aunque se estima que el FNLC masacró a 80 europeos y 200 africanos.
