«De Kunstgids» is Marcus Lodwick's art guide in paperback (224 pages, in Dutch).
It explains 77 scenes from Greco-Roman mythology and 77 from biblical and Christian history, including saints: each entry shows a famous painting in color, the attributes of the character, the classical or religious texts that narrate the story, and the masterpieces that depict it. Includes a glossary and an alphabetical index.
The subtitle of the Dutch edition is «Symboliek en thematiek van klassieke, bijbelse en religieuze schilderkunst». The original English work is titled «The Gallery Companion».
Useful for those visiting museums who want to identify the characters and motifs of classical and religious painting without external help.
