«La barque silencieuse» is the novel by Pascal Quignard, published by Seuil in paperback, with 237 pages, in French.
The work explores values such as love, suicide, atheism, silence, contemplation and secrecy, in search of a more radical way of life, without judgments, society or gods. It alternates tales, mini novels, historical anecdotes and biographical fragments —the death of Madame de La Fayette, the last days of Mazarin—, as well as etymological inquiries into words such as «liberty», «virtue» or «suicide».
Published in 2009, it is the sixth installment of the series «Dernier Royaume».
