«La bastarda d'Istanbul» is the contemporary fiction novel by Elif Shafak, published by Amsterdam in paperback (320 pages, in Catalan).
The novel interweaves two families, one Turkish and one Armenian-American, through Asya, a 19-year-old young woman living in Istanbul, and Armanoush, a young Armenian woman raised in the United States. A family secret links them to the Armenian massacre of 1915 and leads to a reflection on identity, historical memory and present-day Turkey.
Translation from English by David Fernández Giménez. First edition published by Ara Llibres (Amsterdam imprint) in Barcelona in 2007.
For readers interested in contemporary Turkey, historical memory and relations between Turkey and Armenia.
