«La broma» is the novel by Czech writer Milan Kundera, published by Seix Barral in paperback (328 pages, in Spanish).
The story follows Ludvik, a man whose life is shattered by a misunderstood joke; the novel interweaves love, humor and the fragility of existence in a world that has lost its sense of humor.
The work, originally titled «Žert», was published in 1967; this Spanish edition is a translation from the Czech by Fernando de Valenzuela.
For readers of literary fiction and twentieth-century Czech narrative, interested in European classics with an ironic gaze.
Milan Kundera was a Czech and French novelist. Kundera went into exile in France in 1975, acquiring citizenship in 1981. His Czechoslovak citizenship was revoked in 1979, but he was granted Czech citizenship in 2019.
