«La Capilla Sixtina» is the art guide by Fabrizio Mancinelli, published by Edizioni Musei Vaticani in paperback (112 pages, in Spanish).
It explores the Sistine Chapel through its frescoes: the scenes of Moses and Christ from the quattrocento, Michelangelo's frescoes on the vault and the Last Judgement. It explains their symbolism, painting techniques and historical context, and closes with the restorations from 1964 to 1994 that recovered the original colors.
The author, Fabrizio Mancinelli, was director and coordinator of the Sistine Chapel restorations between 1980 and 1994. The book includes an extensive color photographic section.
An accessible work for those interested in Renaissance art or wishing to prepare a visit to the Sistine Chapel.
