«La ciudad del sol» is the volume bringing together Tommaso Campanella's utopian dialogue and Francis Bacon's «Nueva Atlántida», published by Abraxas in paperback.
«La ciudad del sol» is a dialogue between a Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller and a Genoese captain who recounts his visit to a theocratic city where goods, women and children are held in common. At the end, Campanella predicts, in astrological terms, that the Spanish kings, allied with the Pope, will be instruments of the victory of the true faith in the world.
The volume also includes Francis Bacon's «Nueva Atlántida». Spanish edition, paperback, ISBN 9788489832688.
Suitable for readers of political philosophy, history of utopias and seventeenth-century literature.
Francis Bacon, 1st Viscount St Alban was an English philosopher and statesman who served as Attorney General and Lord Chancellor of England under King James I. Bacon argued for the importance of natural philosophy, guided by the scientific method, and his works remained influential throughout the Scientific Revolution.
