«La ciutat cansada» is the contemporary fiction novel by Pere Calders, published by Edicions 62 in hardcover (232 pages, in Catalan).
Pere Calders worked on this novel during his exile in Mexico and left it with the writing very advanced; it was later rescued from some manuscripts. The plot follows the exodus of a city that deserts itself and its traditions, with corrosive humor, excessive characters and disjointed situations that veer towards the absurd.
Third edition (2008) of the El Balancí collection (no. 591), with presentation and editing by Jordi Castellanos and prologue by Joan Melcion.
For readers of contemporary Catalan fiction and admirers of Pere Calders, a leading figure in twentieth-century Catalan letters.

Pere Calders i Rossinyol was a writer, journalist and illustrator from Catalonia, known mainly for his work as a short story writer. Over his life, he received several awards, including the Creu de Sant Jordi in 1982 and the Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes in 1986. Besides short stories, Calders wrote several novels and journalistic articles for some of the most important publications in Catalonia. His writings were noted for their irony and occasional fantasy. As an illustrator, he reached the position of director of L'Esquella de la Torratxa, together with his friend Tísner.
