In 1348, the plague devastated England, leading to ritual sacrifices and pagan rites in an attempt to ward off fate. Nine outcasts seek to return to the North and flee this plague, carrying with them a troubled past. One dies hanged, another drowned, a third dismembered, suggesting a killer is lurking. This is Karen Maitland's first novel, a story of mystery and suspense set in the Middle Ages.
Karen Maitland is a British author of medieval thriller fiction. Maitland has an honours degree in Human Communication and doctorate in Psycholinguistics.
