Synopsis of La dama del alba
La casa de los Gracés, en Asturias, está de luto por la desaparición de Angélica. La leyenda cuenta que bajo el río existe una aldea donde quizás se encuentre la joven. Mientras tanto, Martín, el esposo de Angélica, se enamora de otra mujer. Cuando Angélica regresa, se encuentra con la muerte y decide convertirse en leyenda, sumergiéndose en el río. Esta obra poética, que fusiona leyendas asturianas con toques de mitología, nos muestra cómo la felicidad y el amor se ven amenazados por la muerte. Los temores humanos más primitivos y las pulsiones de supervivencia están en juego. Vida y muerte son dos caras de la misma moneda, inseparables. 'La dama del alba' es considerada la mejor obra de Alejandro Casona, destacando por sus valores líricos y dramáticos, y su conexión con la tradición del teatro español del siglo XX.

Alejandro Rodríguez Álvarez, known as Alejandro Casona was a Spanish poet and playwright born in Besullo, Spain, a member of the Generation of '27. Casona received his bachelor's degree in Gijon and later studied at the University of Murcia. After Franco's rise in 1936, he was forced, like many Spanish intellectuals, to leave Spain. He lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina until April 1962, when he definitively returned to Spain.
